TBR Thursday

Kimberly @ Kimberlyfaye Reads started a new weekly feature that I'm excited to join in! This feature is to showcase what's on your to be read shelf (or eReader, or Audible library) and see what others think of it. Have you read it? Should I read it or put it back on the shelf? It's a way to dust off the books on your self and decide if they're worth reading!

Destroyed by Pepper Winters

She has a secret.

I’m complicated. Not broken or ruined or running from a past I can’t face. Just complicated.

I thought my life couldn’t get any more tangled in deceit and confusion. But I hadn’t met him. I hadn't realized how far I could fall or what I'd do to get free.

He has a secret.

I’ve never pretended to be good or deserving. I chase who I want, do what I want, act how I want.

I didn’t have time to lust after a woman I had no right to lust after. I told myself to shut up and stay hidden. But then she tried to run. I’d tasted what she could offer me and damned if I would let her go.

One secret destroys them.

There's been a fair bit of buzz around this author lately, and a few of her books have been on my TBR for a while. Plus, I'm a sucker for a nice back. ;)

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking The Spine and is a fun way to see what books other bloggers just can't wait to get their hands on!

May 4th
Just call me Mister O. Because YOUR pleasure is my super power.

Making a woman feel ‘oh-god-that’s-good’ is the name of the game, and if a man can’t get the job done, he should get the hell out of the bedroom. I’m talking toe-curling, mind-blowing, sheet-grabbing ecstasy. Like I provide every time.

I suppose that makes me a superhero of pleasure, and my mission is to always deliver.

Sure, I’ve got an addiction to giving, but step right up, and you'll also find a man with a hot exterior, a kickass job, a razor-sharp wit, and a heart of gold. Yeah, life is good…

And then I'm thrown for a loop when a certain woman asks me to teach her everything about how to win a man. The only problem? She's my best friend's sister, but she's far too tempting to resist--especially when I learn that sweet, sexy Harper, has a dirty mind too and wants to put it to good use. What could possibly go wrong as I give the woman I've secretly wanted some no-strings-attached lessons in seduction?

No one will know, even if we send a few dirty sexts. Okay, a few hundred. Or if the zipper on her dress gets stuck. Not on that! Or if she gives me those f*&k-me-eyes on the train in front of her whole family.

The trouble is the more nights I spend with her in bed, the more days I want to spend with her out of bed. And for the first time ever, I'm not only thinking about how to make a woman cry out in pleasure --I'm thinking about how to keep her in my arms for a long time to come.

Looks like the real Adventures of Mister Orgasm have only just begun....

**MISTER O is a standalone romantic comedy and it follows supporting characters first introduced in BIG ROCK**

I loved Big Rock by this author, and the title and synopsis of this one sounds perfectly smutty and fun.

Top Ten Tuesday: My Latest 5 Star Reads

Hey, everyone!

It's time for The Broke and The Bookish's Top Ten Tuesday! This week's topic is your 10 latest 5 star reads. I'm pretty stingy with my 5 star ratings, so I've also included 4.5 star reads. I've had a good reading year so far, so let's get right to it!

In no real order....

10. Big Rock by Lauren Blakely - 4.5 stars

A great "junk food read" that didn't require much thinking, but was still sexy and fun! Plus, that cover....

9. Iron Kissed (Mercy Thompson, #3) by Patricia Briggs - 5 stars

This was the first (but not the last!) Mercy book to get a 5 star rating for me! I freakin' loved this one.

8. Seduction and Snacks (Chocolate Lovers, #1) by Tara Sivec - 4.5 stars

I cried laughing from this one! My pervy side appreciated all the dirty humor, and the sex was awesome.

7. Pucked (Pucked, #1) by Helena Hunting - 4.5 stars

Sometimes I want a book that's over the top with its humor, sexy and characters. A real addictive, junk food read, and Pucked delivered.

6. Biting Cold (Chicagoland Vampires, #6) by Chloe Neill - 5 stars

Love this series, especially Merit's relationships with all the side characters!

5. Winter Wishes by Karina Halle

Such an incredible novella!

4. House Rules (Chicagoland Vampires, #7) by Chloe Neill - 5 stars

This is an addictive series with a fresh and intriguing take on vampires, plenty of heart, humor, and action. I just finished book 9!

3. The Dirt on Ninth Grave (Charley Davidson, #9) by Darynda Jones - 5 stars

One of my favorite series, and this installment was just spectacular. Can't wait for the next one!

2. Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon - 5 stars

I watched the show first, and I definitely recommend doing it that way. I don't think I would have pushed through the slow start if not for watching the show first, but I am thrilled that I did! It was a fantastic and enthralling love story, and the history was so interesting (and I don't like history!).
The show is amazing, and I honestly preferred it slightly over the show. The second season starts in early April, and I'm impatiently waiting to dive back into this world.

1. Sustained (Legal Briefs, #2) by Emma Chase - 5 stars

I just finished this book in less than a day, and it's the second book to wind up on my Best Of 2016 shelf! So much humor, heart, and heat! I loved the all male POV, too.

{Book Review} Wicked Sexy Liar by Christina Lauren

From Goodreads

For two people ambivalent about dating and love, they sure get naked around each other an awful lot . . .

London Hughes is very content to surf daily, tend bar, hang out with her group of friends, and slowly orient herself in the years after college. Everything’s going great and according to the non-plan.

But when a wave knocks her for a loop one morning, then Luke Sutter’s flirtatious smile knocks her for another that evening, she veers slightly off course…and into his path. Sure, he’s a total player, but the Why not—it’s only one night is a persistent voice in her ear.

For his part, Luke’s been on hookup autopilot for so long that he rarely ever pauses to consider what he’s doing. But after an amazing time with London, he realizes that he hasn’t been moving on from a devastating heartbreak so much as he’s been drifting to wherever—and whomever—the current takes him. With London he wants more.

Every relationship involves two people…plus their pasts. And as much as she enjoys her fling with Luke, when London learns about his past—more specifically, who’s in it—everything becomes the brand of complicated she strives to avoid. It’s up to Luke then to change some things in order to try and ensure he’s not something she’ll outright avoid as well.

My Thoughts

3.5 "Side Characters Steal the Show" Stars

(I have a cold, so this may be a little disjointed!)

Wicked Sexy Liar is the fourth book in the Wild Seasons series, and it can be read as a standalone, though you get a fair bit of backstory by reading in order. Wicked Sexy Liar is about London and Luke; London is Lola's (Dark Wild Night) roommate, and Luke is Mia's (Sweet Filthy Boy) ex-boyfriend. We get to see a few nights of blazing passion along with a slow burning romance between the pair, along with some great interactions from the previous book characters.

I enjoyed the banter between this couple immensely. They had an easy back-and-forth that was quite enjoyable and kept me interested in their on-page interactions. Their chemistry was nice, not off the charts, but nice. The San Diego setting was rich, the writing on par with the duo's usual flair, and there was a good bit of humor that kept me chuckling throughout the story.

I liked Luke as a whole. He's a manwhore, but this is the first book I've read where the guy regrets his promiscuity and it has a real impact on his relationships. That was a refreshing and realistic twist I wasn't expecting, and it was interesting to see how Luke handled the situation.
He has a good relationship with his family, especially his sister. That's always a pleasant change, though I admit to cringing when his sister stayed the night at his house while Luke and London were getting busy. If I heard one of my brothers banging, I'd vomit. And leave.

I wasn't a big fan of London. She didn't have much depth behind her, in part because she wasn't a big part of the other books in the series. She was a bit wishy-washy, and definitely needed to get a backbone.

That brings me to my biggest issue with this book. London is horrified when she realizes that Luke is Mia's ex. Even though they aren't close friends, London is determined to break off her fling with Luke until she speaks with Mia. Mia, incredibly happy with Ansel (and come on, can you blame her? Gimme that filthy french boy!), isn't phased by this news and gives London the go ahead. I've never really gotten that whole "chicks before dicks" thing, but whatever.
What I really did not get was how freaking crazy Harlow got. She threw a temper tantrum of epic proportions, and was a brat to both London and Luke. London was cowed by Harlow, and pulled back from Luke. I don't understand that. Mia was fine with it, and last I checked, they're all grown ups!

The sex scenes were some of the best in the series!

The story is around 380 pages or so, though it felt quite a bit longer than that. I felt like several things could have been cut to speed things along.

The side characters really stole the show on this one. Ansel, Mia, Not-Joe, Lola and Oliver were fantastic. Lola and Oliver are definitely better as supporting characters than on their own, and I love seeing Mia and Ansel. They livened things up and kept the story going.

Overall, this was a fun and sexy read with a great look at all the previous characters. I'd suggest it for fans of the series, but if you're new to it, go for book one first.

The Sunday Post/It's Monday, What Are You Reading

Hey, everyone! Happy Easter!

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. It's Monday, What Are You Reading is a fun weekly meme hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date where we share what we've read and reviewed over the past week and what we plan to read next.

It's a calm, quiet Easter here. There was an extended family Easter event last Sunday, and those fuckers lovely people passed along a cold. Ah, you have to love people who bring their snot nosed, chronically sick kids to family gatherings so they can hack all over everyone. I'm so grateful for the sore throat. *sarcasm*

A decent week, though near constant thunderstorms have kept me indoors more than I like!

Sunday - 7,098
Monday - 14,961
Tuesday - 17,934
Wednesday - 17,496
Thursday - 14,317
Friday - 14,569

About 2 1/2 hours left on this one. Enjoying it! Audiobook.

Hamiltag

Hey, everyone!

I saw this tag over at Rebel Mommy Book Blog, and since I had nothing at all to post for today, I decided to try it!

The Room Where It Happens
(A book world you'd put yourself into)

Paris, please! Plus, you know, Ansel. <3

The Schuyler Sisters
(An underrated female character)

I think Grace is really underrated! She's hilarious, strong, and relatable.

My Shot
(A character who goes after what they want and doesn't let anything stop them)

Kate! One of my very favorite heroines.

Burn
(Most heartbreaking end to a relationship)

Okay, so it wasn't an end-end, but I still cried!

You'll Be Back
(Sassiest villan)

If there ever was a truly fantastic anti-hero, it's Javier!

The Reynolds Pamphlet
(A twist you didn't see coming)

The ending of this one.... I was fairly certain by the end, but up until those last 5 pages or so? Good god!

Non-Stop
(A series you've marathoned)

I'm currently marathoning Chicagoland Vampires!

Satisfied
(Favorite book with multiple POVs)

Not big on multi-POV!

Stay Alive
(A character you wish was still alive)

To avoid being insanely spoiler-y, I went with Kate's sword. It was weirdly sad when it broke.

It's Quiet Uptown
(A book that made you ugly cry)

A bit cheesy though it was, I still cried.

One Last Time
(Best series ender)

Hands down!

Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story
(A book/series you feel like will be remembered throughout history)

Unfortunately, I'd say Harry Potter.

Say No To This
(Guilty pleasure read)

It's so bad it's good.

What Comes Next
(Series you wish had more books)

I wish the last book would be done away with and we'd have more books!

Right Hand Man
(Favorite BROTP - apparently that's best friends or best bro friends, so says Urban Dictionary. News to me. )

Lo and Conner had a fantastic bromance!

What'd I Miss?
(A series you were late to)

I only just finished getting caught up on this series!

Wicked by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Things are about to get Wicked in New Orleans.

Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn’t your average college student. She, and others like her, know humans aren’t the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun… and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart.

Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her.

But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.

This author is hit or miss for me (either really lazy writing that's full of love triangles, or lazy writing that's junk food enjoyable), but the New Orleans setting and the fae aspect intrigues me.

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking The Spine and is a fun way to see what books other bloggers just can't wait to get their hands on!

One With You by Sylvia Day - April 5th

Gideon Cross. Falling in love with him was the easiest thing I've ever done. It happened instantly. Completely. Irrevocably.

Marrying him was a dream come true. Staying married to him is the fight of my life. Love transforms. Ours is both a refuge from the storm and the most violent of tempests. Two damaged souls entwined as one.

We have bared our deepest, ugliest secrets to one another. Gideon is the mirror that reflects all my flaws ... and all the beauty I couldn't see. He has given me everything. Now, I must prove I can be the rock, the shelter for him that he is for me. Together, we could stand against those who work so viciously to come between us.

But our greatest battle may lie within the very vows that give us strength. Committing to love was only the beginning. Fighting for it will either set us free ... or break us apart.

Heartbreakingly and seductively poignant, One with You is the breathlessly awaited finale to the Crossfire® saga, the searing love story that has captivated millions of readers worldwide.

I know, I know. You could write a huge blog post on just what is wrong with this series (Codependency! Controlling! Bitch has issues! Whiny! Angst!), but I can't help but love it. It's the ultimate guilty pleasure, the book equivalent of Nutella.
Gimme gimme.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books I Don't Talk About Enough

Hey, everyone!

It's time for The Broke and The Bookish's Top Ten Tuesday! This week's topic is 10 books I wish I talked about more. Let's get right to it!

In no real order....

10. Fisher's Light by Tara Sivec

The best military romance I've ever read, and one of my favorite books in 2015. It's a slightly unusual twist on things, with fantastic characters and some amazing chemistry.

9. Archer's Voice by Mia Sheridan

This book. Read it. All the damn feels.

8. King of Hearts by L.H. Cosway

A sexy, intriguing and breathtaking romance with a fantastic cast of secondary characters.

7. The Fall Up by Aly Martinez

A usually deep and dark topic that's handled with humor and healing, with a to die for hero. Plus, that cover!

6. Bared to You by Sylvia Day

Yeah, I don't even have anything to say about this series. It's horrible, their relationship is toxic, and it's porn with angsty plot. I can't help but love it though. It's my holy grail of junk food reads.
Can't freaking wait for next book in just a few weeks!

5. The Unidentified Redhead by Alice Clayton

Witty, hilarious, and full of sexy fun, this series has Clayton's signature flair and an addictive quality.

4. Slammed by Colleen Hoover

The book that got me into the New Adult genre!

3. Amour Amour by Krista and Becca Ritchie

A surprisingly sensual and exhilarating ride through a Cirque du Soleil-esque Vegas show.

2. Sins & Needles by Karina Halle

I'm not usually huge on more of a romantic suspense type of book, but this is one of my favorite series of all time.

1. Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews

This series is talked about a lot around the book blogging world, but I'm not usually doing to talking. I love the series! It gets better and better. Can't wait for the next book!
