TBR Thursday

Kimberly @ Kimberlyfaye Reads started a new weekly feature that I'm excited to join in! This feature is to showcase what's on your to be read shelf (or eReader, or Audible library) and see what others think of it. Have you read it? Should I read it or put it back on the shelf? It's a way to dust off the books on your self and decide if they're worth reading!

Winning what you want may cost you everything you love...

As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions.

One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin.

But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.

Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart.

Okay, so as I've said time and time again, I'm not one for fantasy. I just... don't like it. However, after reading and adoring The Bird and The Sword earlier this week, I have an itch to try some more out. I've heard good things about this one, even though it's third person (why is so much fantasy in third person?? It's hard enough to read in first person!).
Have you read it? What did you think?

  2. I haven't read this series, but it's on my list. I am in the same boat as you...fantasy isn't my norm and I'm picky. I have heard this series is good, though!

  4. I haven't read that series yet but it's in my TBR! There are so many good things being said about it around booktube that I put it in there.

That being said, fantasy is my favorite genre but I totally agree with you that it can be exhausting to read. In May, all I read was either fantasy or high fantasy and by the end I needed a break. I do have to say though that if you haven't picked up ACOMAF yet, you totally should! It's so much better than ACOTAR! (Also, it's on the NY Best Seller's list for the 4th week in a row! :D )
