{Mini Review} Lingus by Mariana Zapata

From Goodreads

Most people would describe Katherine Berger as a responsible girl with a big heart, a loyal friend who takes care of those close to her, and the possessor of a wicked sense of humor. There was something about her that most people didn't know. "My name is Kat Berger, and I love porn."

When twenty-five-year-old Kat is dragged to a porn convention by her best friend, she's both embarrassed and nervous. The last thing she ever expected was to meet someone who makes her laugh like no other. This is a story about acceptance and friendship, and a love born out of the most unexpected of places.

My Thoughts

3 Porn Star Stars

Girl next-door and school teacher Kat Berger is a closet porn lover. When she's dragged to a porn convention by her two best friends, she meets Tristan. Hot, funny, and incredibly sweet, Tristan is a charmer, and the pair immediately hit it off.
Kat soon finds out just why Tristan is at the convention in a very awkward way: he's the smokin' hot porn star, Robbie Lingus.
Despite some embarrassed fumblings, the two strike up a fast friendship. What starts out as movie watching, dog walking, bowling fun turns into a slow burning romance.

I'm a little torn on this one, so I'm breaking out the pros/cons bullets. ;)

I liked:

  • I'll admit that I'm kind of a sucker for porn star stories, and do read quite a lot of them. By a sucker, I mean I've enjoyed all the ones I've read, and by a lot of them, I mean I've read...three. Maybe four. But still.

  • I enjoyed the friendships of this group. It's a small but diverse little gathering, and they all flowed well together.

  • Speaking of, I really loved how the heroine didn't forget her friends when the hero entered the picture. That was a pleasant surprise!

  • The sex was smoldering and perfectly fit that junk food criteria!

  • Tristan's dog was epic, and I'd like one for my own.

  • There were quite a few laugh out loud funny moments!

  • It was light, fluffy and easy to read. A good book for when you just want to read something mindless. ;)

I didn't like:
  • I appreciate a slow burn as much as the next person, but this book took it too far. This story would've done well at around 300 pages or so, not the near 500 it was. There's a lot of superfluous scenes, and it drags down the pacing.

  • The humor wasn't for me in several places. I love dirty humor, and I'm proudly immature. However, constant farting references made me roll my eyes and get aggravated with the book.

  • The characters aren't too terribly well fleshed out, leaving the story with a rather hollow feel.

  • I didn't really care for the way Tristan's attraction to Kat was discovered. It felt very rushed and unnatural, though it did improve as the story went on.

Overall, this was an enjoyable book that suffered from some pacing issues and unpleasantly crude humor. I still liked it, though!
