Top 16 of 2016: Favorite Quotes

Hey, everyone!

I'm so excited to participate in Kimberly Faye Reads' Top 16 of 2016 event! Today's topic is favorite quotes of 2016, and wow, this one was tough. Let's jump right in!

Much like yesterday, these aren't in any sort of order until numbers five to one.

16.

The magic is in the tiny moments. The small touches, the gentle smiles, the quiet laughs. The magic is about living for today and allowing yourself to breathe and be happy.

15.

Tops come off at the oddest times. Like, oh, hey, the music started? Let me rip my top off and shake what my mama gave me.
Or my plastic surgeon. Same difference.

14.

To be a muse is to be a wonder in someone else's eyes, flaws and all.

13.

Maybe he thinks I've insulted his manhood. I consider his manhood - and how much I hate the word manhood. In Alex's case, bigger is awesome. The only drawback is how hard it is to walk after his manhood plunders my womanhood.
I need to cut it with the historical romance references.

*giggle snort*

12.

So far I had the god of evil and the god of terror on my side. My good-guy image was taking a serious beating. Maybe I should recruit some unicorns.

11.

Respect the written word and all that, but you have to have fun too, find the joy, and most of all, forget about everything else. Forget about the other book. Forget about the future. Writing is about the now, is it not? It's about putting down words and creating worlds and really, that's it. Worrying about how the book will do, how it will be received, about if it will all be worth it is just a waste of time and takes away from the creation of it all.

10.

It wasn’t love or lust, but something we both recognized as a possibility of something. It was so pure, so uninhibited … We just threw ourselves into it. These moments that were little pockets of perfection. It was like nothing else mattered. Just us.

9.

She looks into my eyes and I'm lost. Wrecked. There's no thought, no desire - expect to please her. Make her see stars and touch heaven.

8.

Thank god for e-readers; you can read the filthiest shit and pretend you're engrossed in War and Peace.

7.

You are my greatest weakness because I have no defense when it comes to you.

6.

Amazon’s Top 100 list is the best indicator of how books are selling and the moment I peek at the Top 20, I’m a little mind-blown. Professor Dumbass is not such a dumbass after all. About half the books in the Top 20 are cheaply priced erotica, ranging from 99 cents to $2.99. They all seem to feature the same guy, too, in various stages of undress. A few have Jesus beards and tattoos, more are cut off at neck level because I’m guessing their faces are hideous, and all are baring their steroid-pumped chests. Shit, I don’t want to think about how small their balls must be.

5.

He made me forget the world around me. He was enough. And, together, we were everything.

4.

I was only limited by my ignorance, by my fear, and by my own sense of right and wrong.

3.

I want her. This fearless, stunning woman. And I want the kids. Those perfect, awful, amazing children - whom she loves with every inch of her soul. I want them to be mine. Mine to hold, mine to protect and teach. Their joy, their laughter, their love. I want to come home to it, bask in it, be the reason for it. But even more than that, I want to deserve them. To be worthy.

2.

The worst thing you can do in life is to ignore an opportunity out of fear.

1.

I have loved you every moment of every day, and I will love you until I cease to be. Bird, man or kind, I love you and I will always love you.

{Book Review} Idol by Kristen Callihan

Libby

I found Killian drunk and sprawled out on my lawn like some lost prince. With the face of a god and the arrogance to match, the pest won’t leave. Sexy, charming, and just a little bit dirty, he’s slowly wearing me down, making me crave more.

He could be mine if I dare to claim him. Problem is, the world thinks he’s theirs. How do you keep an idol when everyone is intent on taking him away?

Killian

As lead singer for the biggest rock band in the world, I lived a life of dreams. It all fell apart with one fateful decision. Now everything is in shambles.

Until Liberty. She’s grouchy, a recluse—and kind of cute. Scratch that. When I get my hands on her, she is scorching hot and more addictive than all the fans who’ve screamed my name.

The world is clamoring for me to get back on stage, but I’m not willing to leave her. I’ve got to find a way to coax the hermit from her shell and keep her with me. Because, with Libby, everything has changed. Everything.

5 Rocker Stars

This book got so much hype when it released in June, and I was hard pressed to find a Goodreads rating lower than 4 stars. I'm a sucker for rockstars, so I was eager to test it out. Usually I'm the one that doesn't like hyped books, so I was skeptical going in.

Holy crap, I was blown away from the very first page!

This was, by far, the best rockstar romance I've ever read! It was incredibly well written, with a cohesive storyline that flowed effortlessly from start to finish. It was the perfect mix of sweet, sexy (so steamy!), hilarious, and enough emotion to give me all the feels.

I loved Liberty right off the bat. It's not often I find a new adult heroine that's enjoyable, but this girl was great. She was very strong, and not afraid to contradict authority, even in a face of the alien world of rock and roll touring. She took everything in stride and was a good friend to all. It's so refreshing to see a woman that doesn't act like an child.

"You can be anything you want. It's whether you're happy that's the question."

And Killian....well, I know who August's Book Boyfriend of The Month will be. ;) That man is to die for! He wasn't even a big manwhore, either, which I appreciated hugely.

Killian holding a guitar is the stuff of both my dirtiest fantasy and my most girlish daydreams.

Their chemistry was off the charts, with sex scenes so hot they nearly set my Kindle on fire. There was the perfect balance of smut and sass, emotional connection and lighthearted fun.

The bit of drama that came was well thought out, pertinent, and believable. There wasn't mistrust, jealousy, or lies, nothing ridiculous or trivial. I actually liked it.

"No one who knows you would ever consider you a regret."

The side characters were three dimensional, intriguing and gave the story good depth. I want to read more about the band's manager, and can't wait for his book!

The musical aspect of this book was phenomenal, with an emphasis on classic rock. It focused more on the musical and crowd aspect rather than the fame and fortune, and that's not something I've read before. The way the performances were described with visceral and sensual, and made me feel like I was watching it live.

"I met my best friend on the lawn of a farmhouse. I'd lost my way, my music. She helped me find it again. Back then, she asked me to sing one of my songs for her. I wouldn't do it. I wanted her to like me more than she liked my music."

I was incredibly satisfied with this book, and recommend it to any rockstar or new adult fan. It more than earned its place on my "Best of 2016" list. Highly recommend!

Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Quotes

Hey, everyone!

It's Top Ten Tuesday by The Broke and The Bookish! This week is throwback topics, so you can go back and use any TTT you've missed, or do an updated one! I'm going with my favorite quotes, and it was near impossible to whittle it down to 10...so I went over.  I'll share the book, author, and then the quote.

In no real order....

12. Amour Amour by Krista and Becca Ritchie

This is who I am today.
Tomorrow I may be the same. But in years, I'll be someone else.
Someone I may like more. Someone I may like less.
And that's okay. Because I'll still be living.

I really like the self acceptance of this, and it worked especially well for the character as she worked out who and what she is.

11. The Edge of Never by J.A. Redmerski

I think that if past lives are real, then we have been lovers in every single one of them.

This gets my inner romantic all excited.

10. The Play by Karina Halle

In the light of day, I can see all your cracks and your flaws and your darkness, and I fall in love with it all. And I hope you can fall in love with all that I am, all that lurks in my dark, all that shines in my light. I want you to love every little piece of me, because it all belongs to you.

My heart!

9. Seduction and Snacks by Tara Sievc

I could be a dirty slut; I could be dirtier than a hooker at a gangbang.

Okay, maybe not that dirty.

I laughed so hard at this book. SO hard.

8. Six of Hearts by L.H. Cosway

Why not live with the magic? Be a kid again and believe in the fantastical. Life is more fun with a little smoke and mirrors.

I think that a lot of people tend to lose sight of the magic in life, try too hard to pin things into neat categories that reveal everything, especially as they get older. Enjoy the magical!

7. Still Life With Strings by L.H. Cosway

To be a muse is to be a wonder in someone else's eyes, flaws and all.

That just sounds so pretty.

6. Ashes to Ashes by Karina Halle

When I first met you, I knew, somehow, that you were going to change my life. I just didn’t know in what way. I didn’t know that you’d make me love you. And most importantly, I didn’t know that you’d make me love me. Baby, you make me see the good in myself and the good in everything on this damn earth. You chase my ghosts away, and… And you bring me peace. I can’t thank you enough for being in my life.
And I want you there for the whole journey. Through everything—the good and the bad, the batshit crazy and the sane, the scary and the sexy. Especially the sexy. Just you and me, baby, until death do us part.

I legit sobbed through this book from utter happiness and all the feels. This proposal was gorgeous!

5. Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon

Doom, or save. That I cannot do. For I have no power beyond that of knowledge, no way to bend others to my will, no way to stop them doing what they will. There is only me.

This was a powerful passage for me.

4, 3, 2. Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning

Some things are sacred, until you act like they're not. Then you lose them.

A very important reminder!

Hope strengthens. Fear kills.

Truth.

He looked at me and I shivered. I never get enough of him.
Never will.
I. Want. Him. Always.
Fire to my ice. Ice to my fever.

Barrons!

1. The Dex-Files by Karina Halle

I was head over heels in love with her. No, that didn't describe it.
I was tear my fucking heart out and throw it to her, beg her to take it into hers. I was falling for the greatest heights, with no safety net below.
I was giving everything of my own life for hers, giving up every inch of my soul so she could wear it proudly.
I was a former king on my knees before the queen. A jester begging for a chance.
I was powerless, helpless, and at her mercy.

I have a serious thing for Dex.

The Goodreads Tag

I've seen this tag going around a bit lately, and I think it's so fun!

What is the last book you marked as "read"?

Was sadly disappointed with this one!

What are you currently reading?

I'm suppose to be reading this, but since I'm in a slump, I'm actually rereading....

I reread when I'm slumpy.

What was the last book you marked as "to read"?

This has the makings of a guilty pleasure.

What do you plan on reading next?

I think I'm going to give into the peer pressure with this one. :p

Do you use the star rating system?

Yep, absolutely! Like everyone else, I really wish they'd add a half star rating. I never know whether to round up or down when a book needs a half star.

Are you doing the 2016 Reading Challenge?

I am! 10 ahead of schedule and 83 read out of 130 read. I may drop the goal by 10 or so books soon, since this fall is going to be very busy for me and it's a bit of a slumpish year!

2016 Reading Challenge

2016 Reading ChallengeThe Bibliophile Babe (Amanda Nola) has read 83 books toward                her goal of 130 books.

Do you have a wish list?

Just my to-read shelf.

What book do you plan on buying next?

Good question!

What is your favorite quote?

Can't pick just one, so here you go!

He looked at me and I shivered. I never get enough of him.
Never will.
I. Want. Him. Always.
Fire to my ice. Ice to my fever.

Karen Marie Moning,
 Shadowfever

"For I have lied, and killed, and stolen; betrayed and broken trust. But there is one thing that shall lie in the balance. When I stand before God, I shall have one thing to say, to weigh against the rest. Lord, ye gave me a rare woman, and God! I loved her well."

-
Diana Gabaldon, Dragonfly in Amber

"I mean to hear ye groan like that again. And to moan and sob, even though you dinna wish to, for ye canna help it. I mean to make you sigh as though your heart would break, and scream with the wanting, and at last to cry out in my arms, and I shall know that I've served ye well."

-
Diana Gabaldon, Outlander

Sigh...gotta love Jamie.

"Why not live with the magic? Be a kid again, and believe in the fantastical. Life is more fun with a little smoke and mirrors.

-

L.H. Cosway, Six of Hearts

"In the light of day, I can see all your cracks and your darkness and your flaws, and I fall in love with it all. And I hope you can fall in love with everything that I am, all that lurks in my dark, all that shines in my light. I want you to love every little piece of me, because it all belongs to you."

Diana Gabaldon, Dragonfly in Amber

"Question everything. Your love, your religion, your passion. If you don't have questions, you'll never find answers."

-

Colleen Hoover, Slammed

I was head over heels in love with her. No, that didn't describe it.
I was tear my fucking heart out and throw it to her, beg her to take it into hers. I was falling for the greatest heights, with no safety net below.

Karina Halle, The Dex-Files

I think that in the space between birth and death you can have one life, or you can have many. But in order to have many, you also need the strength to end the one that came before it. And therein lies the tricky part.

L.H. Cosway, King of Hearts

Much slower, I turned around to see Vlad examining his fingernails, as if his hands weren't still ablaze in the flames that had blasted the ghoul's head off moments before.
"What the hell was that?" I gasped.
"Premature inflammation," He replied. "Happens sometimes. Very embarrassing; I don't like to talk about it."

Jeaniene Frost, This Side of The Grave

Vlad is so funny, haha. I'll stop now.

Who are your favorite authors?

Karina Halle, L.H. Cosway, Karen Marie Moning, Alice Clayton, Emma Chase, Diana Gabaldon, Jeaniene Frost, Darynda Jones, Ilona Andrews, K.A. Tucker, Colleen Hoover, Rachel Vincent....

Are you part of any Goodreads groups?

Don't think so!

What could Goodreads do better?

The half star thing, of course. I also wish the app would have an option to choose sharing to Facebook, instead of automatically sharing if you don't go in and uncheck the share option. Sometimes I forget to uncheck, and there's my whorish library all over Facebook!

Top Ten Tuesday: Top 10 Book Quotes (From This Year!)

Hey, ladies!

It's The Broke and The Bookish's Top Ten Tuesday! This week's theme is Top Quotes From Books You've Read This Year (Or So), and I've been looking forward to this one for weeks. My books are constantly dog eared, Post-It'ed, or highlighted with quotes that strike my fancy, and I had trouble narrowing it down to these!
Clearly, I went outside the typical 10, and these are mostly recent reads, with a few old favorites slipped in.

In no real order:

14.

"That bitch!"
"She's nice enough, just -"
"Nice enough? I'm gonna put a hit out on her!"
"Okay, hold on there, Tony Soprano. No one's putting a hit on anyone." I paused." Just to be clear, you don't have those kinds of connections, do you?"
"No, but I have money! I'm sure I can buy some connections."

- The Fall Up by Aly Martinez

13.

"My love... I want you free. I want you wild. I want you brave. I want you anyway I can get you. I want you now, and I want you for the rest of my life."

- The Hooker and The Hermit by L.H. Cosway and Penny Reid

12.

I was head over heels in love with her. No, that didn't describe it.

I was a former king on my knees before the queen. A jester begging for a chance.
I was powerless, helpless, and at her mercy.

- The Dex-Files by Karina Halle

One of my all time favorites!

11.

"Premature inflammation," He replied. "Happens sometimes. Very embarrassing; I don't like to talk about it."

- This Side of The Grave by Jeaniene Frost

I don't quite know why, but this bit makes me laugh my ass off every time I read it.

9.

"You're imagination both frightens and intrigues me."

- Racing The Sun by Karina Halle

That's one hell of a compliment.

8.

"I am forever yours, Kitten, in this life and the next."

Oh, Bones! *swoons*

7.

"You're either on my side, by my side, or in my fucking way. Choose wisely."

- Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning

Can't remember which this one was from!

6.

I knew I loved her - fiercely and with every part of my heart, even the broken parts, even the parts that felt unworthy and without value. And maybe those parts most of all.

- Archer's Voice by Mia Sheridan

5.

"Why not live with the magic? Be a kid again, and believe in the fantastical. Life is more fun with a little smoke and mirrors."

And I hope you can fall in love with everything that I am, all that lurks in my dark, all that shines in my light. I want you to love every little piece of me, because it all belongs to you."

- The Play by Karina Halle

This book left me with 45 breathtaking quotes! It was so hard to pick just one.

2.

I moaned like a whore in church. To be fair, I'd never actually heard a whore moan in church, but I had a feeling it would sound a lot like the unholy sounds pouring forth from my mouth.

- Wallbanger by Alice Clayton

1.

He looked at me and I shivered. I never get enough of him. Never will.
He lives. I breathe.
I. Want. Him. Always.
Fire to my ice. Ice to my fever.

This one gives me chills. Gorgeous, especially after you read their story!

- The Bibliophile Babe
