TBR Thursday

Kimberly @ Kimberlyfaye Reads started a new weekly feature that I'm excited to join in! This feature is to showcase what's on your to be read shelf (or eReader, or Audible library) and see what others think of it. Have you read it? Should I read it or put it back on the shelf? It's a way to dust off the books on your self and decide if they're worth reading!

If Skylar Evans were a typical Creek View girl, her future would involve a double-wide trailer, a baby on her hip, and the graveyard shift at Taco Bell. But after graduation, the only thing separating Skylar from art school is three months of summer…until Skylar’s mother loses her job, and Skylar realizes her dreams may be slipping out of reach.

Josh had a different escape route: the Marines. But after losing his leg in Afghanistan, he returns home, a shell of the cocksure boy he used to be.

What brings Skylar and Josh together is working at the Paradise—a quirky motel off California’s Highway 99. Despite their differences, their shared isolation turns into an unexpected friendship and, soon, something deeper.

Compelling and ultimately hopeful, this is a powerful examination of love, loss, and resilience.

Sounds right up my alley, and I love the cover! Thoughts?

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking The Spine and is a fun way to see what books other bloggers just can't wait to get their hands on!

THE NEW NOVEL FROM THE #1 BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE THIS MAN TRILOGY AND ONE NIGHT TRILOGY!

People think they have Camille Logan nailed: daddy's girl; beautiful, spoiled young woman with her father's bank balance to fund her lifestyle. But Camille is determined to have a life free from his strings. Out on her own, she's made mistakes, including one that found her clawing her way back after a stint in rehab and plenty of bad press. Now, after fighting so hard to be independent and happy, she finds her life threatened as a result of her father's ruthless business dealings. Caught between resentment and fear, Camille prepares herself for the measures her father will take to protect her. But nothing could prepare her for the ex-SAS sniper who crashes into her life.

Jake Sharp resides in his own personal hell. He was distracted from duty once before, and the consequences were devastating--both personally and professionally. He vowed never to let that happen again. Accepting the job of bodyguard to Camille Logan isn't the kind of distraction from his demons he should take. Women and Jake don't mix well, yet protecting the heiress seems the lesser of two evils. But Jake soon discovers that she isn't the woman she's perceived to be. She's warm, compassionate, her presence settling, and his duty to protect her soon goes deeper than a well-paid job, no matter how hard he fights it. He needs absolution. He comes to need Camille. But he knows he can't have both.

The This Man series has been on my TBR for ages, and I'm really intrigued by this upcoming release.
I also have a bit of a thing for bodyguards. :p

Top Ten Tuesday: 10 Books I Wish I Could Read Again For The First Time

Hey, ladies!

It's Top Ten Tuesday by The Broke and The Bookish! It's freebie week, so post what you please! I've decided to go with 10 books I wish I could read again for the first time. You know those books that just make you feel everything and become so addictive that you feel high as soon as you start the next one? Yeah, this is ten of those books...or series!

In no real order....

10. Bared to You by Sylvia Day

I know, I know, I know. It's porn with plot. Angsty as fuck porn with plot. But hell if I can help but love it! I devoured the series (and hated the last book), and I would love to revisit all that scorching hot smut again.

9. Six of Hearts by L.H. Cosway

The book that introduced me to and made me fall in love with L.H. Cosway's writing! I flove Jay.

8. Sustained by Emma Chase

I want to gush like an infatuated teenage girl any time someone brings this book. It made me so happy, and Jake....!!!!!! <3

7. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

Okay, so really I wish I could watch the TV show for the first time, but still. I have such a thing for Jamie Fraser...especially TV Jamie Fraser. #BecauseKilts

6. Addicted to You by Krista and Becca Ritchie

Pretty much the only New Adult book I've read that handles super high angst well.

5. Night Huntress by Jeaniene Frost

One of my favorite series of all time, despite the shit cover, and my favorite audiobook series ever. I love everything about it, especially Bones. My god, how can you not love him?

4. Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning

Okay, so I admittedly disliked the first book immensely, and nearly didn't go on in the series. I'm glad I did, since it's one of my favorites! I wish I could reread this, with the knowledge that it gets so much better.
I'd like one order of Barrons, please.

3. Fisher's Light by Tara Sivec

I loved this when I read it early last year, though I'm not sure if that same 5 star rating would hold up to a reread. May have to do that soon!

2. Darkhouse by Karina Halle

While this novel definitely has some first-time-author issues, I was still intrigued, and wound up devouring all the books in the series. It's now an all time favorite!

1. The Hooker and The Hermit by L.H. Cosway and Penny Reid

This was hilarious, and so realistic! Quite the author duo, too. :D

So there you have it! Those are books I wish I could read for the first time again. What about you?

The Inside Out Tag

Hi, everyone!

I read almost nothing last week and am exhausted from traveling almost all of last week, so let's be lazy a do a tag!

I remembered seeing this Inside Out (like the movie) tag on Rebel Mommy Book Blog, and liked that it was nice and short since, as I said, I'm lazy.

Alice Clayton's books make me happy as a whole, but this series just makes me smile. It's so fun!

This was, without a doubt, the most emotionally intense book I've ever read. I'm not usually a big crier in books (unless something happens to a dog/animal. Then I'm a mess), but I was sobbing by the end of this. It hurt!

This book gave me nightmares. There's this doll and this island, and things get really fucking creepy.

This dumb twit, let me tell you......

Not because of the BDSM! Trust me, I love good kinky fuckery. This, however, was awful. The characters were just yucky.

The Sunday Post/It's Monday, What Are You Reading

Hey, ladies

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. It's Monday, What Are You Reading is a fun weekly meme hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date where we share what we've read and reviewed over the past week and what we plan to read next.

I'm flying home from the Arizona conference today, and I am exhausted. A little TMI, but my period came early, so I'm flying with crippling cramps, nausea, other stomach...issues, and head and body aches. Fun. I really hate flying and airports!

The conference was...different. I'm grateful to have been sponsored to go, and it was insightful in some ways. However, what I've mostly gotten out of it was:

 1. My feet hurt and I am tired
 2. I have the attention span of a goldfish
 3. I really...don't like being around people. At all.

Cover Lust, No. 29

Andie had it all planned out.

When you are a politician’s daughter who’s pretty much raised yourself, you learn everything can be planned or spun, or both. Especially your future.

Important internship? Check.

Amazing friends? Check.

Guys? Check (as long as we’re talking no more than three weeks).

But that was before the scandal. Before having to be in the same house with her dad. Before walking an insane number of dogs. That was before Clark and those few months that might change her whole life.

Because here’s the thing—if everything’s planned out, you can never find the unexpected.

And where’s the fun in that?

It's just so cute! I love the Chinese Crested pup off to the side, and that giant Great Pyrenees.

TBR Thursday

Kimberly @ Kimberlyfaye Reads started a new weekly feature that I'm excited to join in! It's a way to dust off the books on your self and decide if they're worth reading!

When rich, handsome, and arrogant meets beautiful, brilliant, and ambitious, things are bound to get tangled

Drew Evans makes multimillion-dollar business deals and seduces New York's most beautiful women with just a smile. So why has he been shuttered in his apartment for seven days, miserable and depressed? He'll tell you he has the flu, but we all know that's not really true.

When Katherine Brooks is hired as the new associate at Drew’s father's investment banking firm, every aspect of the dashing playboy's life is thrown into a tailspin. The professional competition she brings is unnerving, his attraction to her is distracting, his failure to entice her into his bed is exasperating.

How can one woman turn a smooth-talking player into a broken, desperate man? By making the one thing he never wanted in life the only thing he can't live without.

I loved the Legal Briefs series, and am curious about this one. Thoughts?

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking The Spine and is a fun way to see what books other bloggers just can't wait to get their hands on!

September 19th

Emma Chase, New York Times bestselling author of the Tangled Series & Legal Briefs Series, returns with the first of three sizzling standalone books about a family of racy, irresistible Royals.

Nicholas Arthur Frederick Edward Pembrook, Crowned Prince of Wessco, aka “His Royal Hotness”, is wickedly charming, devastatingly handsome, and unabashedly arrogant—hard not to be when people are constantly bowing down to you.

Then, one snowy night in Manhattan, the prince meets a dark haired beauty who doesn’t bow down. Instead, she throws a pie in his face.

Nicholas wants to find out if she tastes as good as her pie, and this heir apparent is used to getting what he wants.

***
Dating a prince isn’t what waitress Olivia Hammond ever imagined it would be.

There’s a disapproving queen, a wildly inappropriate spare heir, relentless paparazzi, and brutal public scrutiny. While they’ve traded in horse drawn carriages for Rolls Royces and haven’t chopped anyone’s head off lately—the royals are far from accepting of this commoner.

But to Olivia—Nicholas is worth it.

***
Nicholas grew up with the whole world watching, and now Marriage Watch is in full force. In the end, Nicholas has to decide who he is, but more importantly, who he wants to be: a King... or the man who gets to love Olivia forever.

*Makes frantic grabby hands* I love Emma Chase, and can't wait for this!

Top Ten Tuesday: My Favorite 2016 Releases So Far

Hey, everyone!

It's Top Ten Tuesday by The Broke and The Bookish! Today's topic is your favorite 2016 releases so far. Personally, I think 2016 has been a great release year so far! However, I haven't read too many new release this year; I've been working through the TBR pile! So, these are just my favorite 6. :D

In no real order....

6. Pucked by Helena Hunting

Okay, so this wasn't astonishingly well written or anything. However, I can't remember the last time a book made me laugh as hard as this one did. There were more than a few times where I was literally gasping with laugher, tears pouring down my face, my Kindle tossed on the other side of the bed because I was laughing too hard to focus on the words.

5. The Dirt on Ninth Grave by Darynda Jones

Totally put this in spot 9 on purpose. Flawless narration and a great story, too!

4. Midnight Marked by Chloe Neill

A great installment for the series!

3. Sidebarred by Emma Chase

All. The. Fucking. Feels.

2. Showmance by L.H. Cosway

Fantastic, as usual when it comes to this author. I've yet to read a book of hers that's earned a less than 4 star rating!

1. The Bird and The Sword by Amy Harmon

I've sung this book's praises the past couple weeks for a damn good reason.

Suggest Me Some Books!

Hey, everyone!

This week is going to be extremely busy; I'm flying out to Phoenix for a four day conference on Wednesday, and returning back home to Florida on Sunday. I won't be getting too much reading done this week, but I do need something to read on the flights there and back, including a long layover in Houston on the way home!

Random photo of what it's like trying to pack with a dog.

So...give me some suggestions! I have a few new books and a new audiobook ready to go, but I'd like a few more to choose from. Something contemporary, or maybe paranormal. Or perhaps urban fantasy, or a not-too-confusingly-convolted fantasy. First person, addictive, and preferably funny!

Go!

The Sunday Post/It's Monday, What Are You Reading?

Hey, ladies!

It's been a very busy week! I fly out for a conference in Phoenix on Wednesday morning, and it's been a little chaotic prepping for it. Suffice it to say that I am not a fan of shopping. At all. :p Aside from that, I have luggage, toiletries, business cards, dog supplies (my dachshund, Nola, is going with me), ect all ready to go. I'm getting my hair and nails done tomorrow or the next day, and have a couple last minute things to grab, but other than that I think I'm ready. Nervous as hell, but ready.

I'm going to be scheduling posts for this blog for the week, and hope to get around to commenting a bit, but we'll see.

I'm so sad we're winding down with Outlander season 2, but couldn't be more excited that it's been renewed for seasons 3 and 4!

Steps this week:

Sunday - 10,885
Monday - 12,215
Tuesday - 13,484
Wednesday - 12,513
Thursday - 8,267
Friday - 11,038

4 stars!

This wasn't what I was expecting (more historical than fantasy), but I did enjoy it!

About 2.5-3 hours left in this audiobook. Light, easy read!
Only around 20% into this, and I'm a tad skeptical. The idea is intriguing enough to keep pushing through, though!

I haven't picked this one up in a few days, but I'll start up again soon!

Cover Lust, No. 28

In this riveting sequel to New York Times bestselling author Rachel Vincent's acclaimed novel Menagerie, Delilah Marlow will discover that there is no crueler cage than the confines of the human mind…
When their coup of Metzger's Menagerie is discovered, Delilah and her fellow cryptids find their newly won freedom brutally stripped away as they are sold into The Savage Spectacle, a private collection of "exotic wildlife." Specializing in ruthless cryptid cage matches, safari-style creature hunts and living party favors, the Spectacle's owner, Willem Vandekamp, caters to the forbidden fetishes of the wealthy and powerful. At the Spectacle, any wish can be granted—for the right price.
But Vandekamp's closely guarded client list isn't the only secret being kept at the Spectacle. Beneath the beauty and brutality of life in the collection lie much darker truths, and no one is more determined than Delilah to strip the masks from the human monsters and drag all dark things into the light.

I can't wait for this to release early next year! While I prefer the first book's cover, I think this fits in quite well with the story's theme.

An ambitious intern. A perfectionist executive. And a whole lot of name calling.

Whip-smart, hardworking, and on her way to an MBA, Chloe Mills has only one problem: her boss, Bennett Ryan. He's exacting, blunt, inconsiderate—and completely irresistible. A Beautiful Bastard.

Bennett has returned to Chicago from France to take a vital role in his family's massive media business. He never expected that the assistant who'd been helping him from abroad was the gorgeous, innocently provocative—completely infuriating—creature he now has to see every day. Despite the rumors, he's never been one for a workplace hookup. But Chloe's so tempting he's willing to bend the rules—or outright smash them—if it means he can have her. All over the office.

As their appetites for one another increase to a breaking point, Bennett and Chloe must decide exactly what they're willing to lose in order to win each other.

I really enjoyed the Wild Seasons books (Sweet Filthy Boy will always be a favorite ever), and have been curious about this series. Thoughts?

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking The Spine and is a fun way to see what books other bloggers just can't wait to get their hands on!

November 22nd

When his younger brother loses interest in online dating, hot, bearded, bartender extraordinaire, Joe Collins, only intends to log into his account and shut it down. Until he reads about her.

Alex Parks is funny, friendly, and pretty much everything he's been looking for in a woman. And in no time at all they're emailing up a storm, telling each other their deepest darkest secrets... apart from the one that really matters.

And when it comes to love, serving it straight up works better than with a twist.

I enjoyed the first book in this series, and am curious about this one!
