The Sunday Post/It's Monday, What Are You Reading?

Hey guys!

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. It's Monday, What Are You Reading is a fun weekly meme hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date where we share what we've read and reviewed over the past week and what we plan to read next.

Another busy week, with all kinds of work and some home improvement. More of the same coming up, and I can't believe it's basically May!

Five Things Friday, No. 4

Hey, ladies!

I've seen the Five Things Friday posts on KimberlyFaye Reads and Brandie is a Book Junkie, and they're some of my favorite post types, so I wanted to jump on the bandwagon. Also, I'm lazy and was getting bored of Cover Lust. ;)

Let's jump right in!

1. Book of The Week

I loved this!

2. New to My Shelf

3. Fun This Week

Work wasn't as insane as last week, which let up plenty of time for other work, haha. Yesterday was a full day of yard work, including putting down grass seed and new dirt, planting plants, tossing old things, ect. A long day, but so very satisfying. I like manual labor and seeing things turn pretty.
Some indoor sprucing up planning for today!

Even the weather has been cooperating, with pleasant temperatures (even the windows getting to be open!) and nice breezes.

4. Pic of The Week

5. Looking Ahead

Lots of work.

TBR Thursday

Kimberly @ Kimberlyfaye Reads started a new weekly feature that I'm excited to join in! This feature is to showcase what's on your to be read shelf (or eReader, or Audible library) and see what others think of it. Have you read it? Should I read it or put it back on the shelf? It's a way to dust off the books on your self and decide if they're worth reading!

"Hi, I'm the guy who reads your e-mail, and also, I love you..."

Beth Fremont and Jennifer Scribner-Snyder know that somebody is monitoring their work e-mail. (Everybody in the newsroom knows. It's company policy.) But they can't quite bring themselves to take it seriously. They go on sending each other endless and endlessly hilarious e-mails, discussing every aspect of their personal lives.

Meanwhile, Lincoln O'Neill can't believe this is his job now- reading other people's e-mail. When he applied to be "internet security officer," he pictured himself building firewalls and crushing hackers- not writing up a report every time a sports reporter forwards a dirty joke.

When Lincoln comes across Beth's and Jennifer's messages, he knows he should turn them in. But he can't help being entertained-and captivated-by their stories.

By the time Lincoln realizes he's falling for Beth, it's way too late to introduce himself.

What would he say . . . ?

I've never read anything by this author, but for those of you who have...should I try her out?

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking The Spine and is a fun way to see what books other bloggers just can't wait to get their hands on!

May 30th

The Hidden Legacy series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews continues as Nevada and Rogan navigate a world where magic is the norm…and their relationship burns hot

Nevada Baylor has a unique and secret skill—she knows when people are lying—and she's used that magic (along with plain, hard work) to keep her colorful and close-knit family's detective agency afloat. But her new case pits her against the shadowy forces that almost destroyed the city of Houston once before, bringing Nevada back into contact with Connor "Mad" Rogan.

Rogan is a billionaire Prime—the highest rank of magic user—and as unreadable as ever, despite Nevada’s “talent.” But there’s no hiding the sparks between them. Now that the stakes are even higher, both professionally and personally, and their foes are unimaginably powerful, Rogan and Nevada will find that nothing burns like ice …

These covers are absolute shit, but the first book was so addictive and I can't wait to dive into this one!

Top Ten Tuesday: My Oh Hell No!

Hey guys!

It's Top Ten Tuesday by The Broke and The Bookish! This week's topic is 10 things that make you NOT want to read a book, since we did the opposite last week. Let's jump right in!

10. The Insecure Heroine

This may sound cold, but I cannot stand an insecure heroine. I can't stand the girl that is constantly second guessing everything (looks, personality, intelligence, relationships, whatever) and puts herself down.
In some occasions it's okay and it's definitely relatable at times. All the time, though? No, thank you. I'm not an insecure person and I can't connect to a heroine that is.

9. The Manwhore

I don't have a huge problem with this in and of itself, but I'm just really over this sort of "trope". A book has to be really something for me to look past the manwhore aspect.

8. The Really Virginal Virgin

It's not the virgin part I mind so much, it's the virgin who's just so innocent, á la Anastasia Steele "what's a butt plug?". Girl, you're in your 20s. Don't even try to tell me you've never masturbated or read or watched porn. Liar, liar, pants on fire.

7. Werewolves

Just not really my thing. If I'm going to read paranormal, I want a different kind of creature.

6. Aliens

Nope, nope, nope.

5. Actually, Anything Space Related

Space creeps me out in a major way.

4. Cheesy Covers

I try not to judge books by covers, but sometimes I just can't help it. Which is partly why I don't ever read historical romance.

3. The Useless Sibling

The common dystopian theme of the older sibling protecting and caring for the slightly younger sibling, and that mofo is beyond useless and does nothing to help out other than sit there and look sweet.
I'm the oldest of 7, and I love and adore most of my siblings. That said, if we ever get sucked into a dystopian world, they're all pulling their weight.

2. Cozy Mysteries

Just not my thing.

1. Love Triangles

My most hated plot ever. I refuse to read anything with a love triangle!

Book Haul!

I was going to do a Mini Reviews post, but...I am lazy right now. ;) Have a book haul instead, where you can see a peak at my mindless romantic fun read (mostly)!

Gray doesn’t make friends with women. He has sex with them. Until Ivy.

The last thing star tight-end Gray Grayson wants to do is drive his agent’s daughter’s bubblegum pink car. But he needs the wheels and she’s studying abroad. Something he explains when she sends him an irate text to let him know exactly how much pain she’ll put him in if he crashes her beloved ride. Before he knows it, Ivy Mackenzie has become his best texting bud. But then Ivy comes home and everything goes haywire. Because the only thing Gray can think of is being with Ivy.

Ivy doesn’t have sex with friends. Especially not with a certain football player. No matter how hot he makes her…

Gray drives Ivy crazy. He’s irreverent, sex on a stick, and completely off limits. Because, Ivy has one golden rule: never get involved with one of her father’s clients. A rule that’s proving harder to keep now that Gray is doing his best to seduce her. Her best friend is fast becoming the most irresistible guy she’s ever met.

Which means Gray is going to have to use all his skills to get himself out of the friend zone and into Ivy’s heart. Game on

Moments.

Our lives are a collection of moments. Some utterly painful and full of yesterday's hurts. Some beautifully hopeful and full of tomorrow's promises.

I’ve had many moments in my lifetime, moments that changed me, challenged me. Moments that scared me and engulfed me. However, the biggest ones—the most heartbreaking and breathtaking ones—all included him.

I was ten years old when I lost my voice. A piece of me was stolen away, and the only person who could truly hear my silence was Brooks Griffin. He was the light during my dark days, the promise of tomorrow, until tragedy found him. Tragedy that eventually drowned him in a sea of memories.

This is the story of a boy and girl who loved each other, but didn’t love themselves. A story of life and death. Of love and broken promises.

Of moments.

(Book Three in the Elements Series. Complete Standalone.)

"I bet I can untangle you."

At an airport baggage claim, Penny Darling looks up from her knotted mess of ear buds to find the sexiest hunk of man she's ever seen. He's got a military haircut, a scar through his eyebrow, and he's rocking a pastel pink dress shirt like only a real man can. But Penny is on a man-free diet so she leaves the airport without succumbing to his delicious double-entendres...or his dreamy dimples.

PI Russ Macklin can't take his eyes off Penny. As she sashays out of the airport with hips swaying and curls bouncing, he suspects they may share more than just sweltering chemistry. That suitcase she's rolling along behind her? It looks a lot like his.

Because it is.

When he tracks her down, he holds her bag hostage in exchange for a date. Their night begins with margaritas and ends in urgent care, and Russ proves that Cosmo's theory about a very particular type of orgasm was oh-so-wrong.

In Penny, Russ finds a small-town sweetheart with a very naughty side. For the first time ever, he’s thinking about picket fences. Penny finds in Russ a loving, caring man who understands the power of massaging showerheads.

But Russ is only in Port Flamingo for a week. They agree it'll be a fling and nothing more. Because really, they can't fall ass-over-teakettle in love just like that...

Can they?
Dual POV. No cheating.
Featuring a big drooly dog named Guppy.

Declan McGillis can't stand rich people. But working as a deckhand on a luxury charter yacht, he also can't escape them. Declan has spent years kissing their ass and doing their bidding...whatever it takes to make his dreams come true, and nothing will get in his way of being the captain of his own yacht one day.

Mackenzie Armstrong knows what people think when they look at her. She knows from the outside looking in, it seems like her family has it all and doesn't have a care in the world. Things aren't always what they seem, and not only does Mackenzie have the weight of her family's struggles on her shoulders, she also needs to prove to Declan that she's not the spoiled princess he believes her to be.

Declan can't ignore the sparks of lust between them, even though Mackenzie is completely off limits and absolutely out of his league.

Mackenzie thinks a vacation fling is just what she needs to forget about the mess her life has become, and Declan is the perfect man for the job.

Will this be a quick romp in the water, or will it turn into something more when Mackenzie finally gets below Deck?

I make my living as a hustler, and I’m great at it.
I don’t have a single tell and I use that to my advantage to manipulate any situation.
I’ve always known what a person is about to do before they’ve even decided.

That is, until I met Penelope.
I can’t get a read on her, and what’s worse, she doesn’t want anything to do with me.
Which only makes me want her more.

Now I’m in for the hardest hustle of my life.
Somehow I have to convince her she belongs with me.
Good thing I’m always up for a challenge.

The Sunday Post/It's Monday, What Are You Reading?

Hey all!

A very, very busy work week! Nearly every day (including today and yesterday), in fact. This time of year things really start kicking into high gear and it gets hectic. Good for the wallet, not great for sleep. ;)

It's also official oh-my-god-who-in-their-right-mind-wants-to-live-in-Florida weather, the kind of heat that makes opening the backdoor feel like opening up a hot oven. Yay.

Read This Week

This was actually a DNF, but since I pushed through more than 60% and way too many audio hours, I'm counting it as read. There wasn't really anything wrong with it, I just didn't really care what happened to the characters after the first 40%.

Cover Lust, No. 61

Criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker has been offered wealth beyond his wildest dreams. But to claim it, he'll have to pull off a seemingly impossible heist:

Break into the notorious Ice Court
(a military stronghold that has never been breached)

Retrieve a hostage
(who could unleash magical havoc on the world)

Survive long enough to collect his reward
(and spend it)

Kaz needs a crew desperate enough to take on this suicide mission and dangerous enough to get the job done - and he knows exactly who: six of the deadliest outcasts the city has to offer. Together, they just might be unstoppable - if they don't kill each other first.

I really like the three different pictures in this cover (clouds, bird, city) and the cool tones. I'm also curious about it, so if you've read it, let me know!

It's a way to dust off the books on your self and decide if they're worth reading!

Kellan McVey is Burnham College’s most prolific athlete, partier, and ladies’ man—and that’s just how he likes it. Returning to reign for his third year, he wants nothing to change. Then Andrea Walsh shows up.

It wasn’t too long ago that Andi and Kellan were lifelong friends, mortal enemies, and, for one hot summer, more. Then Kellan left and Andi stayed behind.

Kellan thought he’d moved past that last summer’s heartbreak, but with Andi sitting next to him in class, befriending his friends, and battling for the same once-in-a-lifetime job opportunity, he’s starting to remember why he hated her…and why he loved her.

Kellan has a long list of reasons that falling for Andi again is a terrible idea, though every new moment together challenges that theory. But Andi’s all too familiar with Kellan’s love ’em and leave ’em approach—and she’s found someone else to get serious about.

Burnham’s campus king has never had to fight for a girl, but if he wants Andi to give him another chance, he’ll have to do the one thing he’s never had the nerve to do: admit it.

I absolutely adored Undecided; it's unquestionably one of the best New Adult books ever. I liked Kellan well enough in the first book, but I doubt he'd trop Crosbie...or this chick top Nora, to be honest. I've seen really mixed reviews for it, so what are your thoughts on it?

May 9th

"There will be a battle, and you will need to protect your heart."

Kjell of Jeru had always known who he was. He'd never envied his brother or wanted to be king. He was the bastard son of the late King Zoltev and a servant girl, and the ignominy of his birth had never bothered him.

But there is more to a man than his parentage. More to a man than his blade, his size, or his skills, and all that Kjell once knew has shifted and changed. He is no longer simply Kjell of Jeru, a warrior defending the crown. Now he is a healer, one of the Gifted, and a man completely at odds with his power.

Called upon to rid the country of the last vestiges of the Volgar, Kjell stumbles upon a woman who has troubling glimpses of the future and no memory of the past. Armed with his unwanted gift and haunted by regret, Kjell becomes a reluctant savior, beset by old enemies and new expectations. With the woman by his side, Kjell embarks upon a journey where the greatest test may be finding the man she believes him to be.
