The Sunday Post/It's Monday, What Are You Reading

Hey, ladies!

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. It's Monday, What Are You Reading is a fun weekly meme hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date where we share what we've read and reviewed over the past week and what we plan to read next.

I've said this every week, but it is so freaking hot. It reminds me of opening the door on a hot oven every time I step outside; you're just blasted by this thick wave of heat. On top of that, it's humid and so oppressive, not to mention the bugs... My legs are so covered in welts, scabs and blistered bites it's becoming a serious challenge to shave. :p

I had my first (or maybe second, can't remember for certain) did not finish of the year this week. I tried, I really did. Made it 53%+ of the way in, and just couldn't keep trudging on. The writing was awful, the plot weak and choppy, and the characters...well, I wasn't rooting for them against the bad guys. At all. The overall idea was intriguing, but the book fell flat. Then we hit a love triangle (which, according to the next two books in the series, winds up being a love square), and it was all over.
I did wind up adding it to my "read" shelf on Goodreads, after much internal struggling, haha. I wasted near 200 pages, so I deserve it. ;)

Don't read it.

I can't believe we're in June already!

Not the best step week since I wasn't feeling too well for a few days, but overall it was okay. I'm mostly walking at night now to try and fend off the heat.

Steps this week:

Sunday - 9,596
Monday - 7,968
Tuesday - 11,270
Wednesday - 12,095
Thursday - 12,896
Friday - 16,669
Saturday - 11,076

Total - 81,57o

{Book Review} The Bird and The Sword by Amy Harmon

Cover Lust, No. 28

Read This Week

5 stars!
I absolutely adored this book, and I'm still thinking about it days after finishing. It definitely earned a spot on my "best of 2016" list.

4 stars!
Yes! Took me a month to finish, but I did it. A little longer than it should have been (and I really dislike Lissa), but overall a satisfying end to a fun series.

3 stars...?

I didn't really care for this one. I think that's just me though, because nearly all the Goodreads reviews give it 4-5 stars.
Audiobook

1 star.
DNF, but since I went past the halfway mark, I'm jotting it down here.

  1. Ugh I can't imagine it being where it is that hot all the time plus all the bugs. Can't wait to read your review of The Bird and the Sword!! I loved Making Faces but still need to read the Song of David - I did love the Law of Moses though. Hope you have a great week!

  2. MAKING FACES. That is now one of my favorite books ever. I am so mad at myself for never reading Harmon's books before!! I loved The Bird and the Sword. I need another book just like it. Any recommendations??
Despite that horrible heat (OMG), you did great stepping!

  3. Yes, 200 pages of slogging definitely "counts" as a read! It's always so weird to come across a book like that, because you KNOW somebody thought it was good enough to publish, and others even seem to enjoy it, while you're sitting there going, "But it's NOT GOOD."

On the other hand, I'm adding The Bird and the Sword to my TBR on the strength of your comments about it and the cover. Don't even tell me what it's about. I'm good.

  4. Eek 200 pages is quite a bit to go through for a DNF. Sorry it didn't work out for you!

  5. Oh gosh, I hate the heat. I'm glad it wasn't TOO hot this weekend because I was outside a lot. Now my feet are killing me though. haha

  6. I bought Bird and the Sword today and look forward to adding it in over the summer. I hope it cools off soon, when the heat steals your breath it makes going out miserable. Stay cool my friend!

  7. "Why is everybody on an Amy Harmon binge?" said the girl reading The Law of Moses and The Bird and the Sword. Lol.

    Happy reading!
